Do You want to become a gem at Pinterest SEO? Don’t we all? 😊
Pinterest is the number one source of traffic for a lot of bloggers, and a day without this social network can affect their pageviews significantly. As a blogger who has suffered many Pinterest fails (I admit), I can confidently say that if I know nothing at all, I know quite a lot about Pinterest SEO now.
Pinterest SEO is not as complicated as it sounds. If you get it right, your chances of being seen and found by many on Pinterest will increase.
Let’s get started!
What is Pinterest SEO
The word SEO means Search Engine Optimization. SEO is basically about being able to affect the visibility of your blog or website online. This makes it easier for your content to be seen in web search engines through natural or organic means, without having to pay for the level of your content’s visibility online, in order to be seen in search results.
Pinterest SEO is simply your ability to position yourself on Pinterest to appear in search results on Pinterest.
Why do you need Pinterest SEO?
Pinterest has about 250 million users EVERY MONTH!
According to Pinterest, the people who use Pinterest are all over the globe actively seeking helpful and inspiring ideas. They use it to PLAN for what is important in their lives including dinner recipes, home renovation tips or a perfect pair of shoes. By now, you may have a hint of how active people are on the social network.
This shows you how many people you can reach via Pinterest. Through the effective use of Pinterest SEO and other strategies, you are on your way to reaching millions of people with your content.
Without going off track, on to Pinterest SEO tips. 😊
How can I use Pinterest SEO to Boost My Chances on Pinterest?
First things first…
SEO is all about keywords, and Pinterest SEO is no exception. It is important to use the right keywords at the right place.
Let’s move on to the seven ways you can use Pinterest SEO for success.
TOP TIP:
Before you begin, choose the right keyword by going to Pinterest and searching for trending topics. You can use the explore bottom to find trending topics. Click on the explore button on your phone to find trending pins. Trending pins can give you an idea of what to write about.
Bear in mind however that if those topics are not in your niche, you can avoid them and find topics trending in your niche. This is clearly explained in this E-book that taught me almost all I know about Pinterest SEO (Confession time).
7 Places to use keywords to boost your Pinterest SEO
1. Board Titles
Name your Pinterest boards with targeted and popular keywords. This does two things: First, it lets Pinterest know what the board is about and considers it when people are searching for content or boards under that topic. Secondly, it helps pinners know what your board is about at a glance after Pinterest does its job by showing it to them.
How do you Identify related keywords on Pinterest?
Type the keyword you want to use in the Pinterest search bar and click enter/search. Related words will pop up below. Most often they appear in rectangular bars below the search bar. They show in multiple colors. Check the image below for the two ways you can find related keywords.
If your board is on blogging, for example, you can name it Blogging for Beginners, Blogging Ideas or Blogging for Money. This is because they are the most searched-for keywords related to blogging on Pinterest.
You can also type the word in the search box and see related keywords in drop-down like in the image below.
2. Board Descriptions
Make sure you insert the keywords in the description of your boards. Make it compelling to click but most importantly, add keywords. Check the below.
3. Add keywords to the pin
While you want to have compelling titles to attract clicks, insert a keyword or two in the title to help Pinterest identify what your pin is about. Use keywords you want people to see and immediately relate to what they want.
Check out the pin I made below on 8 blog niches that make money. Two of the keywords that appear when you search for blog niches are profitable and popular. From the pin below, you can find these three keywords written boldly.
Do not forget to add keywords to the Pin description as well.
4. Use related images to design your Pins
Pinterest might get confused when you use unrelated images for your pins. For example, if you use the image of a flower to create a pin on blogging, Pinterest may get confused and think your pin is about gardening or home décor.
However, if you use an image of a computer or someone typing to design a pin on blogging, Pinterest automatically senses what it is about and shows it to the right people. Check the image in point 3 as an example.
5. Pin to relevant boards
When uploading a pin for the first time, make sure you pin it to relevant boards. Do not upload a pin on blogging to a board on make-up or beauty. Make sure you pin to the relevant board. The Pinterest algorithm may not be easy for you and me to understand but you want to tell Pinterest what to do with your Pins and where exactly to place them.
7. Your Profile name and description
Your profile name on Pinterest should give other pinners an idea of what your account is about without having to ask. Therefore some people add related keywords to their Pinterest profile name.
Most importantly, write your Pinterest profile description with keywords that describe what your account is about.
