Are you thinking about whether to niche down your blog or not? Perhaps you are trying to figure out how to find a blog niche that is perfect to help your blog succeed.
I believe I have broken down the ‘mystery’ surrounding blog niches.
A couple of months ago, I was thinking about what niche to start my blog in. The more I read and observed successful blogs, the more I observed a pattern.
Months into blogging, I am back to talk about the relevance of blog niches because I have observed its importance and why successful bloggers blog in the niches that they do.
What do I mean when I say successful blogs?
The blogs I call successful are the blogs which have authority, have built an audience and make significant money from blogging.
To start a blog and make it successful, you are probably asking yourself two big questions I have been researching a lot about lately: Should I niche down? Which niche should I focus on to become a successful blogger?
Should you niche down?
It is difficult to settle on whether to niche down or not especially if you like writing about so many different things like I do. 🙂
I enjoy writing about self-care, confidence, personal finance, organizing and relationships. I have something to share in all these categories and I enjoy writing about various topics.
How can I build a dedicated audience who are looking for solutions to specific problems? I want them to stick with my blog and enter my blog’s address whenever they need a useful solution to their problem.
This is why I have been researching blog niches and spending a lot of time trying to understand how this works.
I have found the answer around this simple but mysterious question surrounding blog niches.
One of the blogs that inspired me at the time I was starting my blog was Chasing Foxes. Grace and Silas of Chasing Foxes blog about different topics. Their blog is successful and makes them over 10,000 dollars a month with over 1 million page views. Guess what? They have not niched down. Now, that makes me feel good 🙂
Does it mean you can build an audience and make money blogging without niching down?
Of course, you can. The catch however is that you need a TON of traffic and page views to make the kind of money they make.
With millions of people on the internet, you can definitely get your game up and build a large audience, but you do not have forever to start making money and build an audience.
Secondly, niching down helps you build a targeted audience who keep coming back over and over for you to help them solve a problem. For now, my audience is a bit spread out because I write about things that cut across different niches ( eg. personal finance, relationships, organizing). If you want to have an audience that sticks with you while you make money blogging, focus on one or two niche areas.
Should I follow my passion?
You can follow your passion and niche down based on what you enjoy writing about and what your audience responds to.
However, as you follow your passion, remember that some niches are more profitable than others. Focus on what works and adjust appropriately.
The biggest argument when it comes to blog niches is the question of whether you should follow your passion or follow a niche which looks profitable.
I have found that almost every blog niche can be monetized. However, some blog niches are easy to monetize than others.
This takes us to the next step. What niches are the best to bring success?
Like I indicated earlier, most of the successful blogs are in some particular niches.
These eight blog niches are those you should be looking out for if you want to find a blog niche that is popular and profitable. They are listed in no particular order.
1. How to Make money Blogging
Ever heard people say the only people who make money blogging are the ones who blog about how to make money blogging? Ironic huh!
This is true. This niche is very profitable and most bloggers make lots of money from this niche because they are able to sell digital blogging products and courses.
They also make money through affiliate marketing. This comes in forms such as reviews of blogging products they have used and love, like this Pinteresting Strategies e-book review I wrote. Pinteresting Strategies is the e-book that helped me improve my Pinterest game.
Some bloggers in this niche include Ruth Soukup of Elite Blog Academy and Alex and Lauren of Create and Go. They both make six figures from their products and courses on blogging.
Most people in this niche either sell their own products and courses or are affiliates of other people’s products on blogging and making money online.
This niche is obviously popular because we are all trying to find answers on how to make money : )
2. Personal Finance
Budgeting, saving money, frugal living and money management are constantly searched terms online and a blog in this niche has a lot of potential to be successful. People are constantly trying to find ways to manage their finances better and save money.
Two of the most successful bloggers in this niche are Michelle Schroeder-Gardner of Making Sense of Cents and Rosmarie Groner of The Busy Budgeter.
3. Fitness and Wellness
We all want to be fit and healthy, right? This explains why this niche is gaining so much popularly. The health and fitness niche drives a lot of traffic because people (including you and I) are constantly trying to find ways to take care of their body and be healthy.
This niche however, needs to be monetized properly to make a significant amount of money by introducing people to the right products through affiliate marketing and creating products and courses.
Avocadu is a Health and Wellness blog by Alex and Lauren, and they make a lot of money from the blog.
4. Food
Pinterest which is the number one source of traffic for bloggers is primarily used by women. As a result of how society currently works, women are more likely to search for a lot of recipes online.
This explains why you can make a lot of money from the food niche. Pinch of Yum is one of the most successful blogs in the food niche.
Have you also observed that ketogenic diets and other keto recipes are making their way into the Pinterest/online trends lately? This indicates how much people are interested in the subject.

5. Parenting
Almost every parent wants to become a better parent. They are constantly searching for answers on how to raise their kids and take care of the issues surrounding parenting.
This explains why Mummy/Mom blogs have become very popular in recent times.
Mommy on Purpose by Carly is a blog which is primarily targeted at moms, and is very successful in this niche. Carly currently sells one the most popular e-books on how to get massive traffic from manually pinning on Pinterest.
The e-book is affordable and her strategy has worked for many bloggers, so she is making a lot of money from it. Check out Carly’s e-book here.
If you are a parent and you feel you can help other parents deal with the challenges that come with parenting or become better parents, start a blog on parenting.
6. Beauty and Fashion
In a world where the fashion and beauty industry have become very profitable, it is no surprise that beauty blogs are loved like hot cake.
People are searching for make-up tutorials, fashion dos and don’ts, and all the products and tips that can help them look good. The fashion and beauty niche has become profitable.
Bloggers in this niche are able to make money through sponsored posts for brands. They also make money through affiliate marketing. Pretty cool, right?
This said, you must work hard and be consistent to build a following to be noticed by brands.
7. Lifestyle
Lifestyle blogs are a bit broad and can make money if you build an audience over time. They can be successful if you are constantly helping people solve their problems with the content you create.
Some lifestyle blogs also have some ‘How to start a blog‘ content. An example is Abby of Just a girl and her blog. She writes about organizing, decorating and blogging; her blog is successful.
8. Travel
This niche is good for success. This also depends on how you monetize your blog. Blogs such as Dan Flying Solo are successful and have attained success with time.
The downside to this niche obviously is that you need to be someone who loves travel to thrive and be successful in this niche.
These 8 niches are great for traffic and making money. If you haven’t started your money-making blog yet, check out my step-by-step tutorial on how to start a blog to help you get your blog up the right way.
