Having your home smelling heavenly can be therapeutic, relaxing and put you in the right mood for the day. Nobody wants their home smelling stuffy and unpleasant, so make good use of these cheap ways to keep your home smelling lovely.
Bad smells can be irritating, and be a put-off to your visitors, and I bet you do not want that. In my case, stuffy spaces make me dull, inactive and trigger headaches. The worst part of bad smells is that they are unhealthy.
You do not need to spend lots of money on expensive fresheners to give your home the feel-good effect when you can achieve the most pleasant atmosphere at low cost.
Here are five easy ways you can get your home filled with lovely, healthy, fresh and exciting smells. These can be used in any part of the house including your bedroom, kitchen and living room.
1. Mint Leaves
If you are a lover of plants, this should be fun. Mint leaves are used for variety of purposes especially in the culinary world and known for their healing properties. The beautiful scent of fresh mint cannot go unnoticed and sometimes I wish I could smell it all day. If you’re a fun of mint, you can get your home mint-scented, and it’s easy.
Get some fresh mint in a bowl and leave it at a corner in your room. It is only a matter of time until the fresh smell of mint diffuses and takes over the room. Leave it there until you notice the leaves are beginning to dry or wither (You can keep this for about a week) before you replace them.
Fresh mint can give you an amazing fragrance than you ever imagined. Personally, the smell of mint gives me an awakening feel and I love that effect. Try this and savor the new uplifting fragrance in your home.
2. Scented Candles
This is a very easy way to get your house smelling fresh. You do not have to purchase expensive scented candles to give your home the everyday sweet scent you desire. Invest in a lasting scented candle of your choice (look out for a less expensive one, depending on your budget) and make your home smell like paradise (nothing beats a beautifully scented candle).
You can buy one and light it each time you feel the need to. Alternatively, having variety can help you transform the feel in the house depending on your mood. For example, lemon scented candles and lavender scented candles will give you different fragrances at different points in time.
Look out for safe and healthy products. Do not forget to check the package for information.
3. Home-made Lemon Spray
Lime and lemons have one of the most refreshing smells of all time. Lemons are good at suppressing bad smells and odors. Lemons are a personal favorite when it comes to making fragrant choices for supplies in my home. You can make a lemon spray, and it is easy and inexpensive.
Simply squeeze the juice of about three lemons in a spray bottle, sprinkle about two drops of lemon essential oil in the mixture and add about half a cup of water. Shake thoroughly and you are good to go. Spray the mixture in your room (or your fridge). This gives you a freshness you cannot imagine. It is natural and smells incredibly fresh.
4. Stove Top Simmering Potpourri
Well, this one is super exciting. Just imagine the fragrance of cinnamon alone, and now lemons! And that’s not all, plus some vanilla extract. This is a beautiful combination of pleasant fragrances all together in one.
Slice some lemons in a saucepan, add two sticks of cinnamon and about a tablespoon of vanilla extract. Add about two cups of water and allow to simmer. As it simmers, the beautiful scent diffuses to give your house an amazing smell. You can add more water when the water is drying out. Be careful not to leave it unattended (all the water could dry out while the heat is still on) because that is dangerous.
Try this and enjoy the exciting blend of fragrances.
5. Clean Up
I know you want your house to smell amazing and all that, but there is something you must not take for granted.
Clean up!
You cannot have your garbage bin smelling really bad or have bad odour from your fridge due to stale food while you try to manage and suppress smells.
As much as it is good to make your house smell great, it is prudent to eliminate practices which lead to bad smells.
The most efficient way to ensure a house smells fresher for longer is when the house is clean. If your room is messy and stuffy, clean up.
If your refrigerator causes a bad smell in your room whenever you open it, clean it up. After cleaning, add about a table spoonful of lemon juice to a cup of water and with a towel, wipe the interior of the refrigerator thoroughly to help eliminate the unpleasant smell. You can leave some slices of lemons in the refrigerator if the smell persists.
Achieving a refreshing and good scented home is easy. You do not have to invest in expensive products to get your home smelling fresh and lovely.
Use mint leaves, scented candles, lemon spray, stove-top simmering potpourri to give your home a refreshing feel. Do not forget to clean up because that is the start of a good scented home.
